John Lennon
"The trouble with Government as it is, is that it doesn't represent the people. It controls them."
"Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we are being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what is insane about it"
"When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system's game. The establishment will irritate you – pull your beard, flick your face – to make you fight. Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humour"

Mahatma Ghandi
“True democracy is not inconsistent with a few persons representing the spirit, the hope and the aspirations of those whom they claim to represent. I hold that democracy cannot be evolved by forcible methods. The spirit of democracy cannot be imposed from without. It has to come from within"
"Democracy is an impossible thing until the power is shared by all, but let not democracy degenerate into monocracy."
Martin Luthor King Jr
"If democracy is to have breadth of meaning, it is necessary to adjust this inequity. It is not only moral, but it is also intelligent. We are wasting and degrading human life by clinging to archaic thinking."
"For when people get caught up with that which is right and they are willing to sacrifice for it, there is no stopping point short of victory"

"If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it"
I don't know who said this quote, it's been mis-quoted as Mark Twain, who said it is irrelevant, the point is it's true as this website shows.
George Carlin
"Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls. They got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying. Lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests"

I think the George Carlin quote is very telling. People vote politicians in to represent them, so why do these politicians never pass what the general public want?
